I have business about once a month in the University Circle section of Cleveland. Up until now, I've been staying at the CLE Marriott Downtown. All in all, it is a good property, but I don't really have a compelling reason that I have to stay downtown. It takes me about a 15 minute drive to get over to University Circle.
It looks like the new CLE Marriott East is a little bit further from University Circle, but I'm wondering whether it would still be a reasonable distance.
The reasons why I'm considering trying a different property:
-- The area around the downtown property seems a little bit shady after dark; hence I often wind up eating at the hotel.
-- I have the hassle of dealing with garage parking (as opposed to a suburban property where you walk outside, get in the car, and go).
-- I would prefer having access to restaurants such as Olive Garden, Outback, Red Lobster, etc., which are not represented downtown (and which I assume are more likely to be found in the area of the Marriott East).
That said, I'd like to know what type of drive it is.
Also, if anyone has recently stayed at the Marriott East, I'd love to hear comments on the property.
Thanks!
I lived in CLE for 12 years on and off. First, I agree with previous post - it will take you longer to get to U Circle from the eastside than the Marriott Key downtown. Second, I wouldn;t worry too much about journeying out fo the hotel at night - the warehouse district, with many, many fine restaurants options in all budgets is a short and pleasant stroll. I still visit CLE frequently and always stay in the downtown area so I can walk around. Last, check at the Renaissance as mentioned earlier - attached to Terminal Tower and its shopping/restaurants, easy access to the train and just as close if not closer to the warehouse eateries and a few other notable eateries in its immediate vacinity. This hotel used to be the Stouffer - THE hotel to stay at in CLE.
