I have zero experience of using any other airlines website .... well, more or less zero. Some limited experience of QF but no experience of other U.S. carriers (I don't fly them so have no interest in their websites). All things considered, I have no real complaints about the AA website - it works pretty well for me.
Are there things that could be better on AA.com? Of course (like that wretched calendar problem, which should be an easy fix). One thing that's really good about the QF site is its ability to show you all the flights between 'A' and 'B' on a given day and what the lowest available fare is in each of their major fare classes - if your timing is 'flexible', makes it much easier to pick and choose your flight. On the downside, the QF website doesn't show you the specific fare class until
after you've bought it ... which if you're trying to avoid those "no miles on AA" classes is a major problem.
All in all, I think the AA website is pretty good.
