Plus there are some good restaurants downtown within walking distance (Fat Fish Blue comes to mind).
I've not stayed at the Downtown Marriott, but I have stayed at the Renaissance, and I was quite happy with the experience. In addition, if you do decide to take the RTA, it's right downstairs in Tower City. In my case it was
much more convenient than the parking situation at University Circle
The resturant at the Ren is pretty nice (I forget the name), but there is also the Warehouse District several well lit parking lots away from your front door. If you get tired of the downtown scene, you can hop a cheap cab or drive over to Ohio City. There you have places like Johnny Mango's, The Fulton, Great Lakes Brewery and the Market Ave. Wine Bar.
If you are working at CWRU, make sure you ask for the discount when you reserve your room.. They have a pretty decent negotiated rate at the Ren.
