Perhaps easyJet just need to be a bit more competitive. KL is beating them in the LCC business and they know it
If I fly LCY-AMS on KL it is almost always cheaper than STN-AMS on easyJet. The main extra cost is getting the train to Stansted which adds something to the bill, then of course lounge access at AMS which saves money on beer. As well as the convenience of flying from an airport which is actually in London, no mad dash for seats, etc.
As for passengers interests I remember waiting to board a flight a WAW returning to LHR and some people in the queue for the LO flight had to pay full price for a single ticket as their easyJet flight was cancelled and they'd have to wait a few days for the next one. I'm not sure whether they were breaking the law by not offering rerouting by another airline but they shouldn't leave passengers stranded like that. That's in no ones interests.
