Well, I had the opposite experience, but hold no hard feelings.
I had a rate from Avis which was essentially 40% off the "normal" rate, using a corporate code (AWD). I made my AE reservation, then the Avis reservation and submitted it for price match. We went back and forth a few times, they nudged it lower and lower until finally they said they were at their cost of the rental and that was as low as they could go. However, the representative did try one last time, saying: "I have resent your reservation to the CEO of the company to see if any further reduction can be made."
Well, in the end, I wasn't really surprised to hear that they just couldn't touch the 40% off that I was getting through Avis, as they were not willing to go below their cost. So, it wasn't quite an apples to apples 'price-match,' and I knew that, but they didn't seem to care (nor ask) about any coupons so I figured I'd at least try. They were very quick to respond to questions and re-send the quotes, so no doubt I will consider them again for any future rentals. Good luck!
