I agree that it's overrated, expensive and slow, but IMHO it's still way better than DD. And as to the speed, my regular NYC Starbucks is the one at the corner of 6th Avenue and 24th Street. This is, in my experience, one of the busiest Starbucks around (and there are
lots of very busy Starbucks in NYC), but they move the line along with amazing speed. And because I'm a regular and they know my standard drink (double tall latte), the drink often is made and waiting for me by the time I reach the front of the line.

I find this response fascinating, particularly since I would place DD and Peet's on the opposite ends of the quality coffee spectrum, with Starbucks in the middle.

My exact answer. When I'm not too lazy, I'll head to the Peet's on Mass Ave in Lexington for a small latte (which already is made with a double shot: no need to pay for a second). Otherwise it's a double tall latte from Starbucks (alghough I have to say that paying for the second shot is offensive). I find DD's coffee to be undrinkable.
