maybe they should just flash-forward to what the situation will be in 2005, when next DALPA is obliged to negotiate.

how to reach the anticipated 2005 state of affairs quickly, you ask?? just transfer $1.7 of the $2.7 directly to DALPA today, and immediately start negotiating under threat of bankruptcy.

it's only going to end up there anyway through the current slow bloodletting of the contract...
