Thanks for your help, and House, I am feeling what you mean at IAD, I once did a day trip to visit partner in DC, 2 hours on arrival at IAD and similar security getting back out again - where is the fast track! Cut my visit down to about 16 hours on the ground, similar to the combined flight time!
The US immigration is very handy at Dublin. The guys are just as fierce with the questions as in the U.S but its done and as with what everyone else says, when you get to jfk you are out to the baggage hall straight away handing the customs form over to the officer as you pass him/her by.
No horrible immigration queues.
Theres usually an airport person there directing EI pax off towards the baggage hall and away from where everyone else has to go.
Yes use the EI lounge at Dub,its no paradise but its big enough.
As for at jfk, the EI lounge there is rather nice.
It has 3 pc's with internet and is very big.Theres a lot of loungers which you can lie back on with a view to the runways.
Theres also a homely library with an imitation gas fire at the top of the lounge.
They also have sandwiches

as well as the usual finger bites.
Quite pleasant actually.
The only downside to your trip are the EI seats of course. If you are traveling premier, its a glorified premium economy seat but with a ptv and movie choice.
The food in premier is georgeous on the way out, real tasty but suffers from being cooked in dublin and left to be reheated for the journey back.
