I personally would rather have DL keep zone boarding and skip hte extra line than follow NW's lead this time!
NW rolled out General Boarding (stupidly, but what's new) before their new Elite Line....so the Elite Line could be a response to Elite outrage at having to fight through the crowds trying to cram onto the jetway en masse. Even Noah's Ark had a queue, for pete's sake, and they were escaping the end of the world. Leave it to NWA to link the concepts of stress and hassle with customer satisfaction

Why would you object to DL using Elite Lines in addition to zone boarding? What if you arrived at the gate for a crowded 767 after they called Zone 6 and there are 30 people in line waiting to get their BPs scanned? As an Elite, would you not prefer to walk in front of that mob and get onboard ahead of them? How about overhead space availability if you did not upgrade?

I fly CO 98% of the time, and Elite Access is a wonderful feature. I can get to the gate at any time, skip to the front of the line, and board at my leisure. I no longer have to worry about being at the gate 30+ minutes before departure...especially if I missed an upgrade and will need to find overhead space in the back.
