Oh, I'm from Canada but I travel in the U.S. often and I'm almost always offered a club room for 20-30$ with my email confirmation. There is a special link on the right with the email to add this upgrade to the reservation. I don't know if this is because I'm lucky or because this is standard procedure. I often travel on the weekend (lower rates and occupancy) so this might be why. I've been offered this at Sheraton & Westin properties in the U.S. only.
I've never been offered this in Canada before.
