I do this all the time, and then when I get to the airport ECI asks me if I've already checked in for "this" flight and gives me the option of re-printing my boarding pass (I don't recall if there are other options such as changing seats, etc). Or I'll check in online, print the boarding pass to a pdf file, and fax it to myself at the hotel I'm staying at. In fact, I do that on virtually every trip, now that hotels almost universally have plain paper fax machines.
