It is true, the seats are crap.
I had the pleasure this morning, AMS-EDI. Luckily the flight was only half-full, otherwise it would have been thoroughly unpleasant. I thought the cabin looked a bit different when I boarded, then realised it was the super-thin seats with the floor boxes. As well as being thoroughly insubstantial, these seats aren't very high so it is impossible to get any rest unless you are shorter than 5' 8" or your neck is fitted with hinges. I suppose the small tray tables look nice, but if there was one part of a seat which required function in preference to form, this is it; there wasn't even enough room for my chewy cheese sandwich and styrofoam cup of coffee, still less a full ES meal. Shame, because the old 737 seats were absolutely fine. I would prefer the F70/F100 instead of 739s with these new seats.
To make the flight even more uncomfortable today (which was pretty humid, despite the rain) the flight deck decided not to use the APU so we sat on board like chickens in a roasting tin until we got airborne. Even the square plastic pot of orange juice tasted good after that.
