TK flies between IST and LHR twice daily. BA also has, I think two flights. As both of the airlines on the route are AA partners, it is a good route for awards.
Keep in mind that Europe, China, Japan and Turkey (yes, I know, part of Europe) are very, very hot in August. Are you tied to a school calendar or can you go in the Fall when travel is altogether more civilized?
Btw, I had little trouble finding availability on TK and AY in J to IST in October, which is, IMO, the best month to travel just about anywhere not prone to hurricanes.
