Selling a redemption booking can be quite an embarrassing experience. 50,000 miles plus £300 please for your 241 freebie to LAX.

People persist with BA because the 241 is still very good value for a product that doesn't require copious amounts of flying. Premium class rewards are still good value for money and, as most FF'ers know, they will end up paying roughly the same on other quality carriers like VS or LH. People will begrudgingly cough up the extra taxes as it is still preferable to travelling with CO or AA. People who redeem shorthaul in Y either have more miles than sense, or simply do not know any better and unlikely ever will.

The OFT investigation is, IMO, a crock of turd. That said, the unwanted attention this will bring to fuel surcharges rather than MOL's rants on FR's website may bring about a gradual change. However, I can't see the surcharges being reduced without this being recouped somewhere else down the line. Quite how, I don't know. Increased redemption levels would be too unpopular, so maybe a few more 'booking fees' online/over the phone. Or the status quo could still quite likely remain should the investigation peter out.
