Friend died mid trip: refunds and early return help please
A large family took a trip to Las Vegas and during the night one member of the group died during the night. The group has only been in Las Vegas 23 hours and they have already lost big time.
They are currently working with the funeral home and the police and have not called the airline. Before they do, I thought it would be helpful to ask the board what they could expect from the airline. In this case it is United. Is it logical to expect to be able to cut their expected five day trip short and return immediately home to make funeral arrangements WITHOUT PAYING A HUGE FARE PENALTY TO COME HOME EARLY? All travelers are flying on the cheapest economy fare.
How about the person who died on the trip, could he use his ticket to fly back home in a box? Or could his estate get a refund for his ticket home that was not used?
