Visa waiver and private plane.

Hi,

I've got an interesting question.

I am a European citizen living in Canada. So far, I’ve always travel to the US under the visa waiver program (ie. green I-94w form in my passport).

I was reading, however, that it is only possible to use such program if one is getting into the US by land or on a "signatory carrier". (info here

I also read on this forum, that as soon as the visa waiver program came into existence, US consulates stopped giving B2 visas to people that could travel under the newly created program.

Let's say that a friend of mine has invited me to fly on his own aircraft from a Canadian airport to a US airport and back. This would mean entering the US on a non-signatory carrier.

Given the scenario, what do you think a US consulate would do? Issue me a B2 visa valid for a long time (i.e. till passport expiration)? Issue me a B2 visa valid for just a few months? Or would they just tell me to travel by other means?

I am asking this because

a) It is very probable that I'll be entering the US on a privately owned aircraft.

b) Even though I have always been admitted under the VWP, I'd really like to have a B2 visa in my passport. It would make me feel more confident about the fact that I will be admitted into the US.

c) Hopefully I will not have to pay $6 in USD cash every time I get into the US by land and need a new I-94W (I know that a B2 visa costs $100).

Do you think that I will be asked for proof of the fact that I will enter the US on a non-signatory carrier?

Thanks in advance!
