In this part of the world it is not unknown that full-Y customers can be upgraded to business as a marketing courtesy. Perhaps the $200 was the required fare/class difference to move from M or B to Y. Until we have the full details, all is speculation.
If you read the full thread, you'll actually see the poster said he was on a L fare and I said this doesn't happen daily and this is not speculation and actually did happen. I don't know what more details I can give. Just like operational upgrades, do you know you're going to get one when you book your ticket?
