Don't know. I have a Tumi nylon ballistic nylon briefcase. The hook on the Tumi shoulder strap somehow penetrated the ballistic nylon. It did not cut the nylon fibers but left a hole. I called Tumi and they said it wasn't their problem. Briggs & Riley would have fixed it without question. So, you should check to see whether they deem that this would be covered under the warranty. With respect to the receipt, can you find the entry on your credit card statement? That might suffice, or you might be able to get the store to find their records.
I was surprised and annoyed at their response to my problem. So, they've lost a customer. I'll never buy a Tumi product. In fact, I've purchased several suitcases since then and did not consider Tumi.
