There seem to be quite a few doctors and surgeons like this (well, at least some I know of), who treat their residents/doctors-in-training as little minions for the simple reason that they once had to suffer, but often for no other apparent (or reasonable) reason. I've always thought it incredibly stupid and spiteful, almost juvenile.
