I agree. I ride BART when it makes sense for me, such as SFO (except the super early flights, I tend to do "Park, Sleep, and Fly" for those), and some trips to the East Bay. I am no tree hugger. What does bug me is that some people think everyone should ride mass transit (and hence BART) out of guilt, but if we did that, it would be worse quality. People should only use mass transit when it has the right convenience/price/time pay off for them individually.
I just wish the Bay Area had better mass transit overall. Bart is a fantastic system, but it is just too limited in area. Traveling anywhere outside of the Bart area (including anywhere in SF other than downtown to the Mission) is either extremely inconvenient or just plain irritating (god I hate being stuck in that Muni tunnel).

I've been commuting from SF to Palo Alto for the last year and I would LOVE for there to be a functional way for me to avoid driving. There is a Muni/train option, but it involves a 90-180 minute commute in each direction, depending on time of day. How high do gas prices need to go before we're willing to spend the money on extensive rail/subway systems such as those in NY, London and Tokyo?
