Too bad you didn't get a STL-ATL-LAX-ATL-STL booking. Atleast then you would have been on "real" planes. I flew the STL-CVG-NYC/BOS route alot in 2001 (about 30 RTs) and ComAir missed about half of my connections in CVG. After about 10 trips, I fixed the problem. Because of my medallion status I stayed w/ DL and started flying STL-ATL-LGA or STL-ATL-BOS. The planned extra hour flying the wrong way was less painful than rolling the dice and missing my CVG connection.
Maybe you could show up early and same-day confirm through ATL? It would cost you $25 since you have no status, and be sure to check the seatmaps that day to see if the ATL options have decent availability.
