Interesting indeed! I like Row 1 on the eastbound overnight so that I have a better chance of falling asleep on the lie-flat seat, but prefer Rows 3 or 4 on the westbound daylight return... I like lots of circulating air while awake (no individual air controls in Row 1), and in the middle of a spacious cabin.

Would I pay an extra $300 for Row 1 after Oct? Probably on the overnight flight only.

Would I pay $500 to upgrade transAtlantic one way from any fare? Probably not. I'd use my plentiful Miles to upgrade from a Q or higher fare first. If I'm on a V or W fare, my budget is already tight anyways... and $500 still gets a nice hotel room night in Europe to recover!
