United reports 30 747-400 jets in service, as do other various websites (i.e. airfleets.net). There are 4 that haven't been confirmed as to where they are going, but they are all registered to banks, and are unlikely to be still leased by United. I'm sure any employee can confirm if they are still with the fleet or not: N106UA, N172UA, N185UA, N192UA.

While a D check is costly, UA does have $3BB in cash to invest in revenue-generating equipment. It doesn't make sense to keep paying monthly rent to keep them in the desert (especially during peak season), rather than simply reject the leases in bankruptcy and get them off the balance sheet.
Any idea how long a D check currently takes? 9 months? And what is the backlog for evening doing one? 2 years? I am asking to try and understand if UA will have any more aircraft in the near future e.g. < than 2 years.
