I would not worry too much about it being busy on the road - there is a lot of space to be shared between few people! Although the summer inevitably gets busier with tourists nothing compares to the first weekend of August. That's the biggest bank holiday weekend in Iceland and you can expect the roads being absolutely blocked with cars. Personally I would not choose to travel then but many like the general atmosphere of this weekend. You will be fine though travelling in July. Hope you have a great trip!
