Ideally we still would prefer to take the train up from London to Edinburgh as that would give us a good opportunity to see the coastal scenery north of Newcastle.
If this is the case then one or more parts of your journey would likely end up being by coach. It is however an impressive train ride, especially once you get North of Newcastle. Could you stay an extra day in London and travel up on the Monday? The train has an excellent restaurant car on weekdays - very good breakfast served.
