Involuntary reroute rules?

Disclaimer: I'm not fishing for compensation fodder with this thread, just wanted to familiarize myself with the rules.

So...the Mrs. and I were scheduled BNA>DCA>BOS on Monday. We checked-in online, but didn't have access to a printer, no problem. Went to the airport and upon check-in at the kiosk found that the BNA>DCA segment was delayed, causing us to miss our connection in DCA. BNA was a zoo, and US couldn't reroute through anywhere to BOS with practically all of their flights from BNA overbooked (due to the Bonnaroo festival near Nashville). Other airlines were also full (agent called to verify), so we were confirmed on a flight the next morning and were stuck in Nashville for the night. Our new tickets clearly say "Involuntary reroute" on them. Is any compensation (voucher, hotel, food, etc) typically given in this type of situation? Since we were staying with friends, there was little extra expense for us. However, we could have easily been in a different situation. I just want to get the rules straight for the next time this situation arises.

thanks in advance...
