Checking it seems like a very risky move...too many stories of broken wine bottles for my liking.

Would anyone disagree with me? Does United have any specific policies against carrying that many bottles of liquor as long as they remain unopened during the flight?
Just keep them away from certain FTalkers! Seriously, I put the wine bottles in those ugly athletic tube socks; they work well for this purpose. Also, being a teacher, I can't help to ask what exactly it means to fly "United domestically"?
