I did that the last time i flew to HKG - slept in middle 5 seats for whole flight NRT-HKG. Then on return had 3 seats (window-middle-aisle) which I also spread across. Then, had luck on UA800 NRT-JFK in that I was the only one with an open seat next to me - it was through some contortionist trick that I fit myself onto 2 seats (5'10"). No flight attendant said anything to me, the one on the NRT-JFK sector even left the snack box lying next to me.
