Did you look at booking the SQ segments directly on their website?
In my experience, the airfare usually is quoted at the currency of the departing point. If that's the case, $600 SGD for SIN-SYD-SIN is definitely a bargain. And yes, there are random points where I can force NW's search engine to include SQ segments if the origin point is in the US. Routing through SIN is almost more expensive on the web search engine; however, when I call the elite line, there's usually more room to fine tune booking classes according to the desired fare basis by having them consult with their rate desk.
