If you mean by departures, remember that HKG is also being retimed to 2359.
I agree that the SQ flight is geared towards connections (at both ends) - early arrival Singapore gives good onwards, early departure Singapore gives Europe pax minimum connection times. Despite all Air NZ's talk on their PR about PVG complementing existing Asian transit points, who seriously believes anyone in their right mind would use it? Especially when they lump Osaka or Tokyo into the same sentence. PVG will largely be a point-to-point destination.
Even if the new flights are staffed primarily by new crew I would expect a senior ISD and ISC (or whatever they are calling them nowadays) to be on board though.
