Please correct me if I am wrong but I thought you are allowed 70 lbs per bag on international itineraries?

Was the PIT-ORD a codeshare on US? maybe that is where the problem happened.

If not you should be able to contact customer relations and get a refund if the limit is indeed 70 lbs. I don't have the address but you can get it off the web.
