This is essentially the same schedule as SQ's second flight to SIN, which is deliberately timed for onward connections. Not sure if this is the thinking for NZ also.
An arrival time of 1:45am limits the options for pax wanting to connect in NZ - ie forces stop in Auckland first rather than providing the choice of continuing and stopping at Auckland on the way back.
On the days of the week PVG service coincides with SIN it will be interesting to see if a bit more service is available at the airport. Currently SQ's flight is last by quite a margin and most shops are shut, lounge service is down to minimum.
