The Maldives are boring flat coral islands, whereas Bora Bora has stunning mountains and bays as well as beaches. And at the end of the day the Maldives are an exceedingly poor Third World country, whereas Bora Bora is a relatively rich French territory.
From a scenery perspective, I would agree. From a service perspective, there is also no contest, but the other way around. Having been to both, I can say that the service in Bora Bora is terrible compared to the service in the Maldives.
