This issue was covered in a test case several years ago regarding Tunbridge Wells where people were buying tickets to a station beyond ( where the fare was lower ) and getting off at Tunbridge Wells. This was taken to court and the court ruled that it was perfectly valid to do as the customers did.

not allowed to get off at an earlier station according to the terms of your ticket?
