Anyone ever stay in a hotel room that was being expensed to your company, a client, a convention, etc -- i.e., a room that was essentially free, from your perspective? Anyone ever have something go terribly wrong with said room or hotel? To the point where you pursued the topic with the GM?
But then... has anyone ever been in the situation where the GM nicely offers to make ammends, suggesting that he comp the room? The room that you weren't paying for anyway?
Over the past couple of years, I've encountered issues worth mentioning a handful of times. I've never positioned myself as wanting anything when I mentioned it (since I wasn't paying for the room, anyway), but on 3 separate occasions (at 3 separate hotels), the offer was made to comp the room. In every instance, I've said, "thanks, but it it isn't really that big a deal." Once the GM shrugged and said okay, the other two times the GM insisted on comping the room.
Had I been paying for the rooms on my own, I would have been quick to take the offer for the comp in all of these situations (some of these were really unfortunate circumstances). I guess for the sake of my clients, I should take a comp when offered, as well.
But... anyone ever been in a sitch like this and negotiated some other kind of arrangement with the GM? Like instead of a comp, a free night for later? Extra loyalty points? Keep the porn you found behind the dresser?
Just wondering how aggressive people are in 1) mentioning problems with rooms for which they are not paying and 2) getting compensation for those problems.
thanks to
tkey75 for the thread topic idea!
