I think that the trek from Gorey (in Wexford?) to the Giants Causeway would be a trek. You would have to change trains in Dublin too--not a big deal, but just a hassle. You might want to consider renting a car. It's not that expensive--it's probably cheaper than trains; it's also easier to get around.
You may be right, I do have a car in Ireland, I just get sleepy on long drives. I may have to get someone who does not fall asleep easy to ride with me.
