What is the easiest/cheapest way to gain Gold Elite Status?? I am retired so all the necessary flying will be on my own dime. I am dying to be Gold Eilte at least one time in my life. I live in NJ and use EWR as my home airport.

Thank you all for helping me and I hope I don't sound stupid.

I have a friend who, like me is a leisure traveler, and qualifies via segments.

My friend has been gold or (mostly) platinum for about 6 years by flying COOL specials. He doesn't work on Mondays so almost every saturdays he's on a flight somewhere.

In addition, to the above if he wants really wants to go to a certain location, he busy a first class ticket and always connect via cleveland, to maximize segments.
