interlining with air canada

Background:
route is EDI-LHR-YYZ-HR-EDI and travel agent assures me that i can collect both outward boarding passes at EDI and through check the luggage and do the same on the return. the viewtrip locator shows all 4 legs but the BA legs and the AC legs have their own airline locator codes.

Concern:
i'm pretty sure interlining is a continual problem when the locator codes are different (at least at the airline level) and secondly, would BA issue boarding passes for Air Canada at Edinburgh?

Question:
has anybody successfully done this? or can someone confirm that it's a problem or not?

thanks guys!
