Doesn't sound like an "accident" at all. After you hung up the phone, the Rep at Elite Services contacted his/her supervisor and had the seating restrictions overridden, so that the 3 of you could be seated together in the Elite Seats even though you were in separate reservations. If you had all been in the same reservation to begin with, that would have happened by itself with no human intervention.
