I didn't mention this explicitly, but this was also my concern. Knowing the local situation, what would you say would be a reasonable margin for error on this sort of routing at SYD?

Thanks for this info - that makes things much, much easier since I can presumably use kiosks to check in and thereby avoid some queues.
I'd like to get to MEL as early as possible, but I'm leaning towards the 11:00 am flight in order to avoid the 734.
