I know the rooms well. And you're right that the 2-double or 2-queen bed normal sized rooms don't have desks.
But, they have a few rooms on each floor that are about 2/3 to 3/4 the size of the normal rooms you speak of. That's what they tried to put me in. It had one queen or double bed, no couch, no lounge chair, just a small round table and a smaller table chair. The room is pretty cramped for that property. I think it was room xx49, which is probably the same layout on each floor.
I wouldn't have minded being told that they couldn't accommodate my bed choice, if they had given me a normal sized room. The combination of the bed plus no desk in the smaller room was the kicker for me. I normally don't complain to the property about this sort of stuff and just take it in stride, especially when traveling solo. For some reason, this time, I was just miffed about the entire experience.
I might complain here a lot, but I normally try to take it all in stride when traveling.
