my dad is plat on spg and diamond on hyatt, so he would prob get upgrades @ both places, but i heard that hyatt beijing hardly gives anyone upgrade access to the lounge even if they are top tier...

Even without RC access, the GH Beijing is a fantastic property, and just down the street from Tiananman Square. (I've never been at a hotel with an indoor pool so elaborately designed.) If RC access is important, your dad should discuss the problem in advance and have this specifically noted on his reservation.
