As for the original question, the first time I had Guinness stout was about 30 years ago. I can distinctly remember that I did not like it, but can't really say why at this late date. Maybe my palate has changed since, so I will probably give it a try again sometime soon.

Usually if I'm going for an import it is Heineken...as cold as I can get it...at home I frost a beer glass and put the can/bottle of beer in the freezer for an hour. I just like it slushy. I guess ubiquity is the upside on this choice.

But, I had some terrific beers at the FP LAX when I was out there and that experience really opened my eyes to the subtle, and not so subtle, differences. I wish I could remember all the ones I tried, but I think Duvel, Chimay, and a German beer that started with an SP was among them. If it helps, I think the SP beer maker also makes Optimator, which I found to be too sweet, but a good beer nonetheless.

I guess I just tend toward the lager and pilsner end of things in general. About the only domestic beer I'll drink is Shiner Bock.
