Considering that a little over a year ago there was NO nonstop JFK-BKK option, I'm grateful that there IS a nonstop option at all, even if it has gone from 6 times-a-week to 4 times-a-week. I understand that the flight has been a money-loser from the outset, but it has prestige value for Thai Air plus it allows the Thai politicians and hi-sos to have nonstop access to JFK and LAX.
(Since AA frequently leaves some luggage behind on its DCA-JFK flight, I try to take the Wed flight so if my checked bag doesn't make it I only have to wait 24+ hours for my bag to show up rather than 48+.)
