Question A few questions on routings and capacity controls

Can anyone help with these questions?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi everyone,

I've been mostly lurking on these boards for the past few months and find myself with a few questions that I can't find an answer to.

I'm interested in booking a Total Countable Trip Miles award of less than 9,000 miles in economy at the cost of 60,000 AA miles for July 2007. I'll be flying Roundtrip from PHL and am aware that I cannot fly from the US to the UK using BA.

1) I would like my first stop to be in KEF, but it appears that there is no way to fly OW direct to KEF from PHL (It looks like the only way to get there from PHL is through LGW on BA). Since I can't fly direct from PHL to the UK, if I were to book my ticket using AA to fly PHL-LHR and use the tube/train system so I can make my connection from LGW-KEF, what would my total countable trip miles be?

Would they be:

PHL-KEF (2680 miles)
or
PHL-LHR + LGW-KEF(3545+1205=4750 miles)

I'm assuming the second, but would love to get a second opinion.

2) Does anyone have any information on how tight the capacity controls are on this kind of award. Am I wasting my time, or do I have a chance of getting an award ticket like this in July 2007?

My ideal itinerary would be the following:

PHL-KEF-MUC-CPH-PHL

Thanks in advance for your help!

Zak
