Award Ticket Departure / Arrival City Changes
Hello,
I've been reading FT for some time, but I don't post too often. I have a bit of sticky situation with an award ticket.
I flew a NW rt saver award ticket on CO yxu-dtw-ewr-pek in April, but cancelled the return trip to stay in China longer. Now I'm trying to leave, to almost any destination, but I am unsure of the rules that apply to award tixs.
Availablity is very limited, but I'd like to fly back to DTW or YYZ between Jul 19 - Aug 20. Alternatively, I would be happy to visit relatives in HNL, or change the ticket to visit AMS. I think the AMS route requires too many miles, and the HNL is largely unavailable.
Do I have to depart from PEK? Could I leave from PVG or elsewhere with another destination? In other words, can I change both departure and arrival cities as long as they are in the mileage category required?
Also, is waitlisting worthwhile? I am currently waitlisted, but it is hard for me to get to PEK on 24h notice... Do award inventories really change the week before a flight?
Thanks for any suggestions!!
