If you land in an an airport which is not your hometown you should be able to request an amenity kit (basically consists of comb, toothpaste, razor) and not really worth fighting for.

If the luggage arrives the same day there is usually not much compensation and KL will deliver the luggage to any address you specify. If you complain in writing to KL customer service and whoever is reading the letter is in a good mood they might send vouchers, usually around 50 euros, to be used at Schiphol (AMS).

I highly doubt that KL would "reimburse her for a few hundred euros" unless the luggage is actually lost. KL doesn't seem to have a policy for compensation of delayed baggage on their website, but here is an excerpt from NWA's policy (the rules may be similar).

Expenses: Customers may request reimbursement for additional personal items (i.e., clothing and toiletries) purchased as a result of the delay by presenting receipts at the Luggage Service office at the airport. Reimbursement is limited to $50.00 for the first 24 hours, and $25.00 per each additional day of delay, up to $150.00 per ticketed passenger. Northwest's contract of carriage excludes liability for consequential damages such as expenses for car rentals, phone calls, hotel stays or meals.

If the bag is missing over 5 days you can file a claim on KLs website
KL Delayed Baggage Inquiry (or try the link on the Swiss site).
