Yet another reason to avoid Skyteam/Air France like the plague
This post's relevance to this forum:
1. Should I complain to Delta and AF?
2. Delta forum is much more active than AF.
I've had the unfortunate experience to fly AF quite alot lately. My most recent experience was last week, IAD-CDG-LHR and back. I am a DL FO/Skyteam Elite and so I consulted the Skyteam website before my flight to verify my benefits. One of the benefits listed was as follows (which is still listed):
You can check-in at priority positions at most airports simply by showing your SkyTeam Elite Frequent Flyer membership card. Priority check-in positions include:
• Air France - First Class / Business Class counters
Which was a relief, since DL FO's are Skyteam Elites and I would be showing up at the airport a little late due to work. I arrive for my 1015P flight at around 830, and proceed to the L'Espace Affaires/Business Class line. I get up to the counter, after seeing the Tempo line of 200+ not budge and present the AF agent with my tickets and SM card.
The agent then tells me to get in the other line because I do not have a Business class ticket. I politely explain to him that I do realize I am not traveling on a business or first class fare, but I am a Skyteam elite member and according to the website, I am eligible for using this check in line. He then, loudly enough for people over in the coach line to hear, tells me that "he can make me stand in the other line if he wants and that I am not special just because I am SkyTeam Elite. The sign says Elite Plus and I don't care what the website says, you are not allowed to check-in here since you are traveling in economy." Making it sound like I was a horrible person for paying $900 to fly in AF coach.
Due to time constraints and just a need to check-in ASAP, I decided not to find a supervisor immediately and go stand in the Y line.
Once onboard the flight, I find that my bulkhead aisle seat, which I hold a valid boarding pass for, has been reassigned to a 14 year old child traveling with her mom. The FA instructed me to take the child's former seat, a middle seat, 5 rows back. Ordinarily, this is no problem if I am asked on board, but I did not realize that FA's could reassign seats without at least asking.
Any questions/comments/etc. would be appreciated..
[edited to change formatting and include:
The sign the agent referenced was facing away from the general boarding area. The side of the sign that faced my view was a "World Bank Check-In Sign".
There was also no priority check-in for Elites at Heathrow or Charles de Gaulle
This flight was also a DL codeshare.
