I know people who specifically avoid this aircraft, and despite my loyalty towards DL am thinking of doing the same. Any thoughts?
What about CO? I think you've just described the bulk of CO's domestic fleet, of which the 737-800 is really (sadly) the flagship. CO flies transcon primarily with the 737-800 but also on the smaller 737-700. And CO operates numerous 737-500's which have recently been "upgraded" to 8 seats in FC.

Consider yourself lucky that DL only operates a few 737-800's and rarely on long flights.
