I have been travelling with one for years now. I do not remove it from the wheeled "catalogue" case I use for it. In that case, I also put a couple of external HDs, various wires I will need on the plane for powerpoint connections for iPod and computer, and my toilet kit.
About 50% of the time the screener will ask, "It this a projector?" About 70% of those times, they will open the outer case, swab everything in sight, and close the case without opening the soft zippered case for the projector itself. In other words, they
never sight it.
So, since I have a bunch of stuff stuffed around it, and since extra handling means extra chances to fall, I never remove it.
It is getting long in the tooth and there are much smaller equally powerful projectors out there for way less money that I paid ... so I keep hoping it will get broken so my insurance will buy me a new one!
I can only wonder if it is fear of breaking the thing that keeps them from handling it more. I also wonder why they swab its case so often.
